If you’re not sure what Ramadan is, watching this will fill you in on the basics! As this is an update kind of post, please forgive me for not going into the technicalities of it.
I recently read an update post by HeyBash and was inspired to try filling you guys in on what’s been happening in my life lately. I thought I’d share what I’ve been enjoying most about this blessed month aka “Ramadan“, what my current favourites are and what I’ve been using to stay productive.
So without further ado, let’s jump right into it shall we?
Aside from fasting from around 3:10am till around 9:30pm (yupp, it’s quite a long day!) one of the main things I wanted to focus on this month, was increasing my knowledge of Islam in relation to the Quran.
Alhamdulilah (Praise be to God), my husband and I have been attending a particular series called ‘Principles from the Quran’ and this has helped me immensely, not only understand but appreciate the meaning behind certain ayahs and:
- how lessons from the past, in the Quran, relates to our daily lives
- how to act in situations that life tests us with (in order to benefit both in this life + the next)
- how to implement the wisdom gifted to us by Allah (swt), through examples set out for us by the righteous and successful ones who lived before us.
Apart from trying to develop and improve our spiritual connection with our Creator, my husband and I have also been trying our best to contribute to the community by volunteering at our local Masjid (Mosque). Some of the things we help with for example, is preparing and organising food/setting things up for people to break their fast at the end of the day.
( side note: If you’d like to get involved, check out the nearest masjid to you! Even if you don’t feel up to becoming a dedicated volunteer, coming to share in the spirit and lending a hand even just for an evening can help ease the load of another person much! So don’t ever belittle how much much good you could do if you came along! (: )
Favourites wise, I’ve been especially enjoying tweets from @RamadanReadathon! Being a bookworm and finding out this was even a thing got me so fangirly because I’ve never discovered so many diverse Muslim authors in my whole life! Not to mention, there’s so many free giveaways involved too ^-^!!!! It’s also a great way to meet other bookworms all over the world as well!!!
Taraweeh is another huge favourite of the mine, due to the soft inner peace that trickles into your heart, while you stand to pray, side by side with people of all ages and backgrounds! Though for some it may seem lengthy, the glittering rewards that are promised to those who stand in prayer, to me, are irresistible!
Inn terms of books, the picture below consists of my current reads for the month. The first one by Sakina (and before anyone gets confused, nope I’m not the author behind this book just in case the thought pops up, because I was asked not too long ago, haha, but I wish!). This is a book I’ve actually read before, but was so ridiculously good, that I want to read it again! I may even do a book review of both afterwards if you guys are interested!
The second book is a new read, by Yasmin Mogahed. I’m currently enjoying it to bits! It wonderfully puts everything in life into perspective! I can’t help but admire the simplicity in language as well and how easily it encourages one to evaluate things as you turn from page to page. A consistently reccuring theme throughout the book which I’ve noticed so far, is that it illustrates the importance of taking care and cleansing your heart, in order for you to reach true inner peace, happiness and contentment ~
In addition to the subject of books, I’ve also been trying to keep a Ramadan Diary/Journal to track my progress over the blessed month. So far I’ve managed to write a little something each day. Some opt for/are better at writing specifics i.e: things they’re grateful for.
However, I personally feel that by writing about everything it helps me to include all the things I’m feeling throughout the month, even if I don’t feel all that positive at times. This helps me to pin-point where/why I may be struggling, when my happy memories occurred and where I most improved. Whenever I go for a talk or a lecture, I like to jot down notes in it too, to look back on and learn from for the future.
Its such an exhilarating feeling watching yourself grow over such a short period of time, don’t you think? No matter how small or large the growth appears to be, it still matters!
Without baby steps, would we have ever learnt to walk or run after all?
Nevertheless, there are days I still feel that I’m falling behind though. By not sharing enough and being as active social media/creative/blogging wise. But lately I’ve been trying to reassure myself that my health and mental well-being comes first. This month is extremely special and only comes once a year! If it means taking time away from things I love for a greater good, that will benefit me physically, mentally and spiritually, what have I got to lose, but gain?
In conclusion, I have been trying my best to stay productive. Even while resting, I like to try reminding myself that even that can be productive, if my intention is to recharge myself to do more afterwards.
Did you know you can get rewards just for having good intentions?!
Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, related from his Lord the Blessed and Exalted, “Whoever intends to perform a good deed but does not do it, then Allah will record it as a complete good deed. If he intends to do it and does so, then Allah the Exalted will record it as ten good deeds up to seven hundred times as much or even more. If he intends to do a bad deed and does not do it, then Allah will record for him one complete good deed. If he does it, then Allah will record for him a single bad deed.”

How amazing is that? ^-^ Not to mention, you get reward for not acting on a bad deed that you may have wanted to do as well!
I do apologise if this update post was a little on the lengthy side, but let me know if you have any goals or things you’d like to achieve by the end of the month.
Until next time,
I wish upon you all, nothing but peace ~
Take care + Stay Safe ~
+ May you be able to make the absolute most of this blessed month, Ameen ~
P.S: Even if you’re not Muslim and are curious about the faith, don’t feel shy to drop me a message or leave a comment if you’re curious about anything.
I’d be more than happy to help you out (:
